A word from Bob

Welcome to the house I fell in love with 60 years ago, which was then hidden amongst the trees in the sleepy village of Rathmullan. Our telephone number was Rathmullan 4 with a telephone service from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening.

We purchased the house in 1961 from the Holiday Fellowship who had previously used the house as a centre for walking holidays.

With the financial support of family and friends, we were able to convert the house into a hotel. Well known architect Dr Liam McCormick came on board and supervised the transformation which included changing from a private plant to mains electricity, new plumbing and repainting the entire building.

I had the responsibility of purchasing everything from beds to knives & forks and only missed the wastepaper baskets!

Over the years there has been constant improvement and today with the impact of the family, we try to ensure your comfort in keeping with the relaxed friendly atmosphere of the house.

I have now handed the reins over to our son Mark and his wife Mary, but still keep a keen interest in the hotel and in particular the gardens.

I hope that your visit to our website gives an insight into the atmosphere we try to create here at Rathmullan House. Please get in touch and we would be delighted to welcome you to our country house amongst the trees, here on the shores of the Swilly.
