Slieve League Cliffs
Guests at Rathmullan House who have a little more time on their hands would be well advised to make the journey to the famous Slieve League Cliffs. Situated in the South West of Donegal, Slieve League are said to be some of the highest marine cliffs in Europe.
There are terrific views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sligo Mountains and Donegal Bay as you walk towards the terrifyingly high top of Sliabh League, where the cliff face of Bunglas rises over 600m above the raging ocean. Experienced walkers only should venture beyond the viewing point onto One Man's Pass which loops around onto the Pilgrim's Path.
Dolphins, whales, and seals are often spotted off the Slieve Legue Cliffs and in May or June you may even be lucky enough to see basking sharks.
This is a sacred mountain, with a Christian pilgrimage taking place here for over a thousand years, no doubt Sliabh League was a sacred mountain before the Christians arrived here. A trip to the Slieve League visitors centre is a must to learn more about the local culture, crafts and food which add context to the unmistakable natural beauty of this incredible location.
